WORLD PREMIERE

Depicting the human condition through encounters with raw bodies, embryonic bodies, enigmatic bodies, extremely vital due to some obscure desire or unusual critical attitude. There are latent bodies, residues, in an apparent disorder of meaning, which accumulate in some subtle anatomical recess and press from their lairs to emerge and grasp a possible world. The inspiring muse and creative lever is Nikutai, that inner landscape revived and sought after by the most enigmatic and poetic figures of Butō dance. The ambiguity of its sacred domain restores a carnal and imaginative order poised between what is defined as real and what tenaciously emerges from other physical and spiritual orders. I hope to linger, macerate, plunder an emotional archive to find bodies in the shadows, in dialogue with the urgencies of contemporary time.

Alessandra Cristiani Best Actress critic for the short film Un appartamento vuoto, directed by Sara Masi and Francesco M. Mortati, Stockholm City Film Festival, 2024; Nomination for the 2018 Ubu Award for Best Actress or Performer for the shows Clorofilla and Euforia; Excelsoir Award for Best Actress for the short film La foto, directed by Sara Masi, 1997. Since 1996, she has been exploring the philosophy and practice of Butō. She created and directed the International Butō Dance Festival Trasform'azioni (2001-2011) with the Lios company. The project La fisica dell'anima. Francesca Stern Woodman won the Scenari Indipendenti 2008 award. She was choreographer in residence for the Filarmonica di Roma (2011-13). She teaches contract courses at Roma Tre University on the performance techniques of Ankoku Butō and Steiner's Eurythmy (2016/25). She works as a soloist and in the Habillé d'eau company, winner of the 2018 Ubu Prize for the dance performance Euforia.
